Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays are an important part of preventive and diagnostic care. They allow our team to see what isn’t visible during a regular exam—helping us detect issues early, plan treatment accurately, and protect your long-term oral health.
The process is quick and comfortable. A small sensor is placed in your mouth, and we take images from specific angles depending on what we need to evaluate. Digital technology captures the image in seconds, and we can view it immediately on a screen. This means fewer retakes, faster appointments, and the ability to zoom in and enhance images for a clearer look at problem areas. If you have a sensitive gag reflex or discomfort with traditional X-ray film, digital sensors are often easier and more comfortable.
Digital X-rays help us identify cavities between teeth, infections, abscesses, impacted teeth, bone loss related to gum disease, changes around previous dental work, and early signs of other concerns before symptoms begin. Catching problems early usually means simpler, less invasive treatment—and can help you avoid pain, emergencies, and higher costs later.
Another major benefit is reduced radiation exposure compared to many traditional film X-rays. While any X-ray uses a small amount of radiation, digital systems generally require less, and we only recommend X-rays when they’re clinically appropriate for your age, risk factors, and oral health history.
At Poplar Square Dental, we use digital imaging to support careful, informed care. If you have questions about how often you need X-rays or what we’re looking for, we’re always happy to explain and review your images with you.
