Root Canal Therapy

Root canal 2

Root canal treatment is a proven way to relieve tooth pain and save a natural tooth that has become infected or severely inflamed.

A root canal may be recommended when decay, a deep crack, or trauma reaches the inner tissue of the tooth (the pulp). Common symptoms include lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, swelling, or a pimple-like bump on the gums—though some infections can exist with very few symptoms.

At Poplar Square Dental, our goal is to make the experience as comfortable as possible while protecting your smile for the long term.

Here’s what to expect during the process. First, we examine the tooth and take X-rays to confirm the diagnosis and plan treatment. Next, we numb the area thoroughly, so you stay comfortable throughout the procedure. We create a small opening in the tooth, remove the infected or irritated tissue, and carefully clean and shape the root canals.

The canals are then filled and sealed to prevent bacteria from returning. In many cases, a crown is recommended afterward to restore strength and protect the tooth from fracture.

The benefits of root canal therapy are significant: it can eliminate infection, relieve pain, and help you avoid extraction. Preserving your natural tooth also maintains your bite, supports proper chewing, and prevents neighboring teeth from shifting.

After treatment, mild soreness is normal for a short time and is usually manageable with routine care. With good home hygiene and regular dental visits, a root canal–treated tooth can last for many years. If you’re experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity, schedule an evaluation at Poplar Square Dental—early care can make treatment easier and more predictable.
